Toronto Sportsman's Show March 2009- Report

Thanks to Linda and Roy and Lori and all support staff for all their hard work in getting the Toronto Sportsman's Rare Breed Show in gear and trotting along. Their effort is commendable.

My views on the Sportsman's Show as reported by Jennifer Sider and Proudfoot's Tad Bit O Tina

I have previously attended the Sportsman's Show with my Central Asian Shepherd bitch, FoxFire Kimpossible; so wasn't a complete stranger to how it all went down; but for sure I am a novice. I'm also owned by the lovely Dora; who views anything less than physical activity as a slightly less pleasant endeavour than nail filing. She's a fun dog and does anything for me; and was a great ambassador for a 9 mos. old puppy; but by the second day she was uninspired by being in the booth for the day with a few excursions for trotting around the ring and going potty. Her brother Hankie shared the booth with us and he is a charming fellow; calmly loving everyone who stopped by to admire his handsome self. Thanks to his owner Mike Kirby for growing up such a good dog and thanks to their breeder Marcella Burgess for creating such wonderful specimens. I think the Proudfoot Puppies did themselves proud.

Darin and Karen Long shared our booth space with us; bringing their puppy Redland's Maximus out for the experience; unfortunately they were unable to make it on Sunday; it was great meeting them and talking Boerboels.

Down the lane was Eric and Sandra's Cavan Creek; represented by the lovely Lucy; a stunning example of the breed who took the female class all but once.

Across from us was a lovely blue-mask male; Cavan Creek Bosco; (sorry didn't catch the owner's name); took Best of Breed each day; and may have placed in group as well. Please email me with information (I will check the Rare Breed Club website for updates as well).

Around the corner was Kristina and Tim Querin's Legend Boerboels kennel,  represented by their highly evaluated male puppy Ishmael Spirit of Legend who took the male puppy class each show.

From Kristina Querin: Here are a few more pictures from the Sportsman Show in Toronto. Ishmael Spirit of Legend went Puppy in Breed and Puppy Group 1st on Saturday under CKC judge Phyllis Wolfish, Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Breed Puppy on Sunday under Claus Koeppe. In the Molosser Specialty he went Best Puppy in Breed both Saturday and Sunday and Puppy Group Third on Sunday under FCI judge Cornna Hoberg. Our bitch puppy Caberet Kylie went Reserve Winners Bitch on the Sunday under Claus Koeppe. Bosco is a Cavan Creek dog who went Best of Winners and Best of Breed at both shows on Saturday and Best of Breed both shows on Sunday. He also had group placings too. He was best of breed in both Molosser Specialties. I believe that Cavan Creek Lucy went Winners Bitch at 3 out of the 4 regular shows as well as both Specialties. Congrats to the Proudfoot dogs for there wins under Norma Egginton. Thanks for the write up, it was really great seeing the boerboels so well represented at the show, and to have all of them do so well!  Kristina Meade-Querin
